Fir Trees Care Home, operated by HC-One and situated in Dukinfield, Tameside, Greater Manchester, welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to take part in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations, which took place from Monday 16th June to Sunday 22nd June 2025.
The highlight of the week was the Care Home Open Weekend, held from Friday 20th June to Sunday 22nd June, during which Fir Trees Care Home invited residents, colleagues, friends, family, and neighbours to enjoy a variety of community-focused events, including a lively garden party and a traditional afternoon tea.
Care Home Open Week, hosted by Championing Social Care, is a national initiative aimed at strengthening connections between care homes and their communities. It offers the opportunity to showcase care home services, provide guided tours, and demonstrate the engaging activities available for residents.
HC-One’s theme for 2025, ‘The Big Summer Weekender’, brought a nostalgic British summer holiday feel to the home with themed decorations and activities, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all involved.
Throughout the week, Fir Trees Care Home hosted a variety of engaging events, including a traditional afternoon tea where residents’ friends and families were welcomed to enjoy delicious treats and refreshments. A musical afternoon was also held on Thursday 19th June, featuring local singer Shaun, who delighted residents with classic tunes. Colleagues and residents danced, sang along, and shared a joyful afternoon together.
The home was beautifully adorned with colourful summer decorations, creating the perfect backdrop for a week of community spirit, fun, and connection. The event not only brought families and friends together but also offered visitors the chance to learn about the rewarding career opportunities in care and the meaningful volunteer roles available at the home.
Nicole Gunning, HC-One’s Fir Trees Care Home Manager, said:
