Lioness season 4 renewal is not confirmed yet, but after a season 3 finale that upended almost every major relationship in the show, the case for another run is hard to argue against. Paramount+ has not made a formal announcement, but cast member and producer Jill Wagner is not keeping quiet about her expectations.
‘We’re going to get a Season 4. We will, we will,’ Wagner said in an August 2026 interview with ScreenRant. ‘When people see what [Taylor Sheridan] wrote for the finale, we are getting a Season 4. Or I will pay you $100.’ That is either very confident or a very expensive bet.
Sheridan has several shows running through Paramount+, which makes the prospect of another instalment feel less like wishful thinking and more like scheduling arithmetic. No renewal has been announced, but the platform has form for backing its slate.
What the Season 3 Finale Set Up for Lioness Season 4
The finale, titled ‘The Unraveling’, answered the season’s central question and then immediately opened about three new ones. According to Fox News/OutKick, the episode featured an epic restaurant shootout after Joe ordered her team to engage the man responsible for her abduction, and it finally named the person who orchestrated the whole thing.
That person turned out to be Aaliyah Amrohi, played by Stephanie Nur, the original target from season 1, who reappeared in the closing moments of the finale. USA Today reports that Aaliyah was revealed as the figure behind the attempts to kidnap and torture CIA operative Joe McNamara. Bringing back a character from the show’s first season as the architect of season 3’s central threat is exactly the kind of long-game storytelling that gives a series momentum heading into a potential next chapter.
The personal fallout is just as loaded. USA Today also reports that Joe discovered in the finale that her husband Neal, played by Dave Annable, had moved out, making good on his threat to leave as Joe’s CIA life continued to pull their marriage apart. Whatever season 4 looks like, Joe is walking into it without the domestic anchor the show has used to ground her throughout.
Season 3 Built to This: The Ukraine Arc and What Came Before
Getting to this point required a season that worked across two time periods. The Hollywood Reporter notes that season 3 used a dual timeline, showing Joe and her team travelling to Ukraine six months prior to capture a valuable Russian asset operating behind enemy lines, before folding that mission back into the present-day kidnapping plot. It is a structure that rewarded patient viewers and gave the finale’s revelations extra weight.
The cast across all of it included Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, and Jill Wagner. No returning cast members have been confirmed for season 4, but given how directly ‘The Unraveling’ sets up unfinished business for nearly all of them, it would take some doing to recast that ensemble.
There is no release date for Lioness season 4 as things stand. The season 3 finale aired on 20 September on Paramount+, so any renewal announcement, when it comes, will follow from there. With Aaliyah Amrohi now revealed as the season’s villain, Neal gone, and the QRF team looking for answers, the writers have left themselves plenty of threads to pull. Wagner has already promised to pay out if they do not get picked up. The ball is in Paramount+’s court.
